PhilHealth chief apologizes for exiting previous House hearing

Ricardo Morales

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) president Ricardo Morales has apologized for suddenly leaving the hearing conducted by the House of Representatives last August 12.

In a letter dated August 14 and presented by Rep. Michael Defensor on Monday, Morales explained he could “hardly sit up much less follow the discussion.”

“I checked in online earlier and remember being acknowledged. However, I suffered from an attack and could hardly sit up much less follow the discussion,” Morales said.

“I am coming from a chemotherapy session I had during August 7. Again, I humbly apologize for my absence due to my condition,” he added.

It was earlier revealed that Morales was  diagnosed with Diffuse Large B cell lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Senior Vice President for Legal Sector Atty. Rodolfo del Rosario Jr. also apologized on Monday for his absence during the hearing due to hypertension.

“I have every intention to attend albeit electronically since I am suffering from hypertension. I am suffering from hypertensive diabetic and my BP was 150/100 that day,” he said during the last hearing.
