Palace: 3 Luzon provinces, Iloilo City, parts of Cebu under GCQ until Aug. 31

MANILA, Philippines — Three provinces in Luzon, Iloilo City as well as parts of Cebu, will be under general community quarantine (GCQ) due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic until the end of August, Malacañang announced Saturday morning.

In a press briefing, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said that the Luzon provinces under GCQ are Nueva Ecija, Batangas, and Quezon.

Iloilo City, Cebu City, Lapu Lapu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City, the municipalities of Minglanilla and Consolacion will also be under relaxed lockdown measures, Roque added.

Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte himself will announce from Davao City on Monday whether Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal will remain under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The five areas were placed under MECQ from August 4 to 18 following an appeal by medical frontliners amid the rising number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-29) cases.

The rest of the country is still  under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

As of Friday, the Philippines has logged 153,660 COVID-19 cases, with 2,442 fatalities and 71, 405 recoveries.
