Palace mourns death of ex-Comelec chair Brillantes

MANILA, Philippines — The Palace extended its condolences to the family of former Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr., who passed away Tuesday morning.

“We condole with the family of Chair Brillantes and of course he served the nation well when he was chairman of the Comelec,” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online press briefing.

Brillantes passed away at the age of 80.

On July 26, Brillantes’ daughter Zeena revealed that her father was intubated at the Medical Center Manila after contracting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Brillantes served as Comelec chairman from January 2011 to February 2015.
