48 new COVID-19 cases bring Eastern Visayas tally to 1,084
TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 48 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in Eastern Visayas on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 1,084.
One of the new cases involves a 33-year-old man who worked as a driver of the rural health unit of Gandara town in Samar.
Adiza Lee of the Gandara rural health unit said they have yet to determine how the man got infected with the virus.
“He experienced coughs and was swabbed last Tuesday (August 4). He is now in our isolation facility and asymptomatic,” Lee said.
In Carigara town, Leyte, two of its latest COVID-19 cases involve a 44-year-old father and his 15-year-old daughter.
Another 19-year-old daughter of the man earlier contracted the virus.
The three arrived in Carigara last July 27 from Lapu-Lapu City. They are now at the town’s quarantine center.
The Department of Health (DOH) reminded the public to strictly observe all the health protocols, including wearing face masks and shields, to slow down the spread of the virus.
“Solely doing the precautionary measures will not protect you 100%. If you wear a face shield or eye protection, the chance of not getting infection may increase. Masks and face shields should be worn properly and mindfully,” John Paul Roca, the regional information office of DOH-8, said.
