Zubiri lends support for call to place Mega Manila under 2-week ECQ

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri has lent his support to the call of medical frontliners for a two-week lockdown, citing Sunday’s record high of more than 5,000 cases reported in a single day.

“I totally support the medical frontliners call for a time out for an ECQ of 15 days to stop the spread of this virus. Last time we were on ECQ we had an average of just 200 cases a day. Today at GCQ, it’ an average 3,000 to 4,000 cases a day. I pity the doctors and nurses in our hospitals that have reached their capacity,” Zubiri said.

He added that a friend who had COVID-19 was turned away due to a lack of beds, and passed away on Saturday due to a lack of respirator.

“I understand the importance of the economy and businesses, especially those who will lose jobs. But for a successful economy, our workers must remain safe,” Zubiri said.
