MANILA, Philippines — The enforcement of an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) at the Senate premises is being considered as a show of support for the call of medical frontliners to place Mega Manila under ECQ for two weeks.
According to a Senate source, the declaration of the ECQ covering the Senate premises will be made through a motion during a Senate plenary session on Monday, August 3.
The source added that during the period of ECQ at the Senate premises, only a skeleton staff will be allowed to physically report for work. The move is the Senate’s “show of support” for the frontline workers who made the call amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic now facing the country.
President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to have a meeting with key Cabinet members this Sunday to discuss the appeal of the medical community to place Mega Manila under enhanced community quarantine for two weeks.
As of Sunday, the Department of Health reported a total of 103,185 COVID-19 infections with 65,557 recoveries and 2,059 deaths.
