TACLOBAN CITY — Eastern Visayas recorded 46 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Saturday, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 806.
Of the 46 new cases, 36 were from Leyte province.
The town of Capoocan, Leyte posted the most number of fresh COVID-19 cases with eight, followed by Abuyog and Villaba with five cases each.
The other areas in Leyte that have new coronavirus cases were Hindang, Palo, and Tanauan, Tacloban City, Ormoc City, Carigara, Matag-ob, Dulag, Calubian, Hilongos, and Isabel.
Biliran province, on the other hand, has eight new cases from Caibiran, Naval, Kawayan, and Almeria.
In Samar province, the municipalities of Jiabong and Paranas also registered new cases of the virus.
Of the new cases in the region, 40 were locally stranded individuals (LSIs) mostly from Metro Manila.
The national government recently resumed its “Hatid Tulong” program for LSIs in Metro Manila.
Dr. Minerva Molon, director of the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas, said based on the information provided to their office by the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), at least 731 LSIs are to return to the region in the next few weeks.
“All local government units are enjoined to prepare for the arrival of LSIs to include preparedness of the quarantine/isolation units; reorientation on infection and prevention control measures; collaboration with all agencies for a whole-of-nation-approach,” Molon said.
