Negros Oriental records 10 new COVID-19 cases

DUMAGUETE CITY—A health worker and her son were among the 10 fresh cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Negros Oriental on Sunday, July 26.

The health worker—a 46-year-old female—traveled with her 17-year-old son and the entire family to Bacolod City in Negros Occidental to process some documents, said Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer.

The health worker from the town of Sibulan had visited the rural health units in Sibulan, San Jose, and Amlan. Her son, on the other hand, stayed at home for the most part of July, except on July 4 when he went to a mall in this city.

The health worker and her son currently do not show symptoms of the disease and are under isolation at Sibulan’s quarantine facility. Local health authorities are still tracing those who had close contact with the two patients.

Meanwhile, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Jimalalud town also tested positive for COVID-19 in Negros Oriental.

Six cases were also reported in Mabinay town, while Canlaon City reported one new case. All of them are stranded locals.

Negros Oriental presently has 91 COVID-19 cases where 38 were active with 50 recoveries and three deaths.
