PNP now has 1,643 COVID-19 cases
The Philippine National Police recorded 43 more new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections among its personnel, bringing to 1,643 the total number of COVID-19 cases in the 200,000-strong police force.
As of July 22, the PNP said 612 infected personnel have recovered while the the death toll remained at nine. Police Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said the police was looking forward to the completion of its second testing lab at the Camp Sotero Cabahug in Cebu City by August.
The PNP has a testing facility capable of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, also known as swab testing, at the national headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Banac said the second facility could be operational by September once the Department of Health accredits it by August. —Nestor Corrales
