A 27-year-old woman who was described by a friend as a “health freak,” died after drinking alcohol in Sussex, United Kingdom.

Alice Burton Bradford suffered from a condition called alcoholic ketoacidosis, a metabolic complication that could be triggered by drinking alcohol on an empty stomach. Bradford died on July 1 right in her garden, as per The Argus last Saturday, July 18.

Aaron Mulvay, Bradford’s friend for over eight years, said that her death was “absolutely a horrible shock” for him.

He added that he was uncertain as to how much Bradford had to drink that day, but that he knew that his friend was not an alcoholic.

“She had not eaten enough and it had triggered an acid in her stomach,” Mulvay was quoted as saying. “It was just so sudden – she didn’t even have to go to hospital, but had gone out into her garden and passed away there.”

Mulvay and Bradford worked together for four years and kept in touch even after they had gone their separate ways. The man described his friend as a fun person who loved running and nature. They also used to enjoy attending festivals.

“Alice loved going out but she was also such a health freak – she was a member of running clubs and really enjoyed cycling,” he said in the report.

A fundraiser was set up by Mulvay on July 3 in memory of his friend. Since he and a few others were not able to attend Bradford’s funeral due to COVID-19 restrictions, he intends to set up a memorial bench on a cliff in Roedean, East Sussex to honor Bradford, as per report.

“[Please] all dig as little or as much as you can so we can all have somewhere to go and remember her by,” he said in his GoFundMe page. Cha Lino/JB
