MANILA, Philippines — The Visayas, as well as Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batagas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) and Bicol regions will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Monday due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagagsa) said in its 4 a.m. bulletin.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers mostly in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.
“Ang mga thunderstorms po ay posibleng tumagal hanggang dalawang oras. May kasama po ‘yang katamtaman hanggang malakas na pagbuhos na pag-ulan, malakas na pag-ihip ng hangin, pagkidlat, at pagkulog,” said Pagasa weather specialist Ariel Rojas.
(Thunderstorms may last for up to two hours. These will bring moderate to heavy rains, strong winds, lightning, and thunder.)
The ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that trigger rains in affected areas.
