Remains of 88 OFWs arrive from Saudi Arabia
MANILA, Philippines — Another batch of overseas Filipino workers’ (OFWs) remains from Saudi Arabia arrived in the country on Sunday.
Leading the heroes’ welcome ceremony, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the repatriated Filipino migrant workers “who fought a good fight” overseas deserved a grand reception.
Of the 88 bodies, Bello said 57 died of COVID-19 while the rest died due to other causes.
He added that 28 of the OFWs were from Dhahran, 11 from Jeddah, and 39 from Riyadh.
The COVID-19 victims were immediately cremated while the others were flown back to their respective provinces by the government.
