Pandemic temporarily puts 2 Bacolod hotels out of business
BACOLOD CITY – Two hotels in Bacolod City have temporarily stopped operations amid economic uncertainties brought on by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Bacolod Business Inn closed down on Sunday while the Planta Hotel & Residences ceased operations last May 31, said hotelier Jose Vicente “JV” Tanpinco.
Bacolod Business Inn has 79 employees while Planta Hotel & Residences has 73.
Tanpinco said the employees were given an option to retire and be paid for the number of years they were employed with the offer to return as new hires when the hotels reopen.
He said they do not know how many employees they will need when they reopen because it will depend on the viability of the business.
“As long as the economy is bad, we cannot reopen. But once it improves, we will reopen,” Tanpinco said.
