Albay police tracking down van that left quarantine-bound convoy
LEGAZPI CITY – Police units are in pursuit of a runaway rented van carrying eight people, including a female infant from Metro Manila that broke away from a “Balik Probinsiya” convoy en route to a quarantine facility in Ligao City.
The Nissan van (F3V013) driven by Wilfredo Bautista was initially flagged down by police border patrol at the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Agos in Polangui town at around 6:10 a.m.
Following travel and quarantine protocols, police manning the checkpoint directed the van driver to join the police convoy after checking their required travel documents.
The convoy was headed to the quarantine facility in Ligao City for the passengers and drivers to undergo coronavirus tests and quarantine procedure.
While the police escort was leading the convoy through the highway in Oas town, the van broke away from the group and took a turn at the road leading to the town center.
All police units across the province were alerted to track down the van that could possibly be carrying coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.
Police identified the van passengers as Allan and Salve Toralde, Elorde Sandreno, Joshua and Brian Abitan, Darmano Seva, Angelito Pineda and the infant.
The passengers were reportedly from the towns in the first district of Albay.
