Youth council members hailed as COVID-19 ‘frontliners’

TACLOBAN CITY—A National Youth Commission (NYC) official hailed Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), or youth council, members as front liners in the fight against COVID-19.

Victor del Rosario, NYC commissioner, said SK officials served as “frontliners” of their villages in the ongoing health crisis.

SK members used their funds to ease the impact of lockdowns on villagers.

Del Rosario said the young “are not only the hope of the nation.” “We can also depend on them” during health crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic, said Del Rosario, who hails from Naval, Biliran province.

In Eastern Visayas, several SK leaders crafted their own programs to help people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Baybay City, Leyte, for example, SK leaders helped in packing and distributing relief foods and made 1,000 face shields for policemen and soldiers manning checkpoints and health workers on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19.
