CABANATUAN CITY –– No new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient was reported by the Nueva Ecija Inter-Agency Task Force (NEIATF) on Thursday (April 23).

The last case was a 56-year-old vegetable dealer from Jaen town, who died on April 10 but who’s infection was confirmed only on Sunday (April 19).

To date, Nueva Ecija has recorded 42 patients, while 124 patients suspected of having contracted the virus still have to receive their confirmatory results.

Of the 694 suspected COVID-19 cases, 451 have been examined, 89 were admitted to local hospitals, 124 have been discharged from the hospital, and 30 have died.

But the province continues to tighten its 24-hour curfew.

At 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Zaragoza town, two men were arrested for violating the quarantine.

Jomar Jose, 22, a construction worker, and Ariel Reyes, 35, motorcycle mechanic, were drunk and making a scene, prompting the police to detain them, said Police Major Jaime Ferrer, municipal police chief.

He said the suspects raised to 36 the number of people who have been accosted for a variety of offenses, including illegal gambling, breaking the curfew, and violating the liquor ban.
