Motorist killed in SCR collision
A motorist was killed while another was injured when their vehicles collided head-on at Cebu South Coastal Road (SCR) in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, at past midnight yesterday.
Talisay City police identified the dead rider as Gerson Abatayo, resident of 3rd Streeet, Carmen Village, barangay Poblacion in Talisay City.
The other motorcycle rider, Rene Cañada, is still confined at the Chong Hua hospital.
Police said Abatayo left a drinking session with friends at a convenience store located along a gasoline station in the South Road Properties (SRP) before the trip home.
Abatayo refueled at the gasoline station and sped towards Talisay City when his Sukuzi Raider motorcycle supposedly swerved to another lane and crashed head-on to Cañada’s Yamaha Vega motorcycle.
Cañada, a nurse, was headed to Cebu City at the time. The force of the collision threw them back several feet away.
The gasoline station’s security guard witnessed the collision and called the police for help.
A passing motorist rushed Abatayo to the Talisay District Hospital but he failed to make it.
