Calabarzon COVID-19 cases hit 499

SAN PEDRO CITY — The number of people infected with the coronavirus disease in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) has reached 499, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to the DOH’s April 12 bulletin released Monday, 67 people in the region have died, while 34 recovered from the illness.

New deaths were recorded in this city in Laguna—a 68-year-old woman from Barangay San Antonio and a 43-year-old man from Barangay San Lorenzo, city Mayor Lourdes Cataquiz said.

In Laguna, health authorities recorded 136 cases in cities and towns with highest numbers of infection like San Pedro, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, Calamba, Los Baños, and Sta. Cruz.

Mass testing

Cavite, meanwhile, has 108 cases, of which 16 have died and four people have recovered.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla on Monday vowed to fast-track the mass testing of frontline workers, students, and residents suspected or probably infected with the virus.

Remulla however said they would need an additional P500,000 to begin local mass testing.

In Rizal, 23 people have died while only three have recovered out of the 164 confirmed cases of virus infection.

Most of the cases were traced to the province’s lone city of Antipolo, with 52 cases, followed by Cainta with 40, and Taytay with 22.

In Batangas, 66 residents tested positive for the virus, most of them in the key cities of Lipa and Batangas.

In Quezon, the province recorded 25 cases, out of which five people have died and three have recovered.
