5 of 9 elderlies with confirmed COVID-19 in Quezon die
LUCENA CITY – At least nine of the 25 confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Quezon province are elderlies and five of them have died, health authorities disclosed.
Record from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that as of Sunday, April 12, nine people on the list of validated COVID-19 patients are aged 55 to 79.
Out of the nine elderlies, or those who are nearing their senior age or actual senior citizens, five had died.
They were identified by their official IPHO tag numbers as: “QP #8”, 55, male, Candelaria town; “QP #10”, 79, male, Unisan; “QPO #14”, 65, male, Infanta; “QP #16”, 74, female, Tiaong; and “QP #20”, 62, female, Calauag.
The four other elderlies with the COVID-19 disease — Lucena City with two and one each from the towns of Sampaloc and Candelaria — are confined in undisclosed hospitals and in stable conditions.
The global death rate for the pandemic is high among the elderlies and for people with critical health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, high blood pressure, and cancer — all of which are more common with older persons.
