Sombise was crossing the street when a speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) hit him, throwing him head first several meters away from the point of impact.

It was the injury to the victim’s head that caused his immediate death, Milanes said.

The driver of the SUV did not stop as it sped away. Sombise was taken to the hospital by traffic enforcers assigned in the area.

PO1 Gaby Capinpin of the Eastern Police District public information office said witnesses were not able to describe the SUV or even note its plate number, making it difficult for probers to track down the vehicle’s owner.
