Girl with leukemia needs P183,000 for chemotherapy

In 2008, six-year-old Aicelle Gayon was diagnosed by doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center to be suffering from acute lymphocytic leukemia.

They promptly prescribed that the young girl undergo 12 cycles of chemotherapy so that she would have a fighting chance against the disease.

On January 20, Aicelle will undergo her 10th chemotherapy session. Each one costs P61,000 each. The last three are critical, according to her doctor, because these may prolong her life by several years.

“It’s quite difficult to accept that I have a sick child but we have to keep on looking for kind people because we will be needing P183,000 for her last three chemotherapy sessions,” her mother, Rowena Gayon, told the Inquirer in Filipino over the phone recently.

“I hope that your readers will help us extend the life of my daughter. As a parent, I want to see her live a full life,” she said.
