PNP runs after spreader of fake news on social media

The Philippine National Police has started a technical probe to identify persons behind circulating false information on social media that cause undue public panic and fear amid the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis. PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said: “The PNP anticybercrime group has initiated a technical investigation to identify the authors of this disinformation to make them accountable for their actions,” stressing that, “Fake News is the last thing we need in these times of national emergency.” He advised the public to validate any information thru the PNP Command Center at these numbers: 0917-5382495; 0998-8490013; and landline (02) 87253176 as well as through the email: [email protected].”—Jeanette I.
