Bacoor City in Cavite under lockdown starting March 19

MANILA, Philippines — The city of Bacoor in Cavite will be placed under lockdown starting Thursday, March 19.

Cavite 2nd District Rep. Strike Revilla on Wednesday said it is one of the city government’s measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Revilla said the lockdown will be effective at 12:01 a.m. of March 19.

“Hinihiling po ang pakikiisa ng lahat, lalo na ng ating mga kapwa Bacooreño. Para din ito sa ating kapakanan at ng ating mga mahal sa buhay (We are hoping for everyone’s cooperation, especially our fellow Bacooreño. This is for our and our loved ones’ welfare),” Revilla said in a statement.

On Wednesday, a male resident of Bacoor City tested positive for the virus. Currently, there are six total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the whole province of Cavite.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus that first emerged in China’s city of Wuhan in Hubei province in late 2019.

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses named the novel coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.

The virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people but can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.

Coronavirus is a family of viruses, whose surfaces have a crown-like appearance. The viruses are named for the spikes on their surfaces.
