MANILA, Philippines — Several hotel establishments in Manila City have committed to provide rooms for frontliners and healthcare workers living outside the city free of charge amid the quarantine period.
This was after Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso talked to hotel officials on Wednesday afternoon, the city government said.
So far, Sogo has agreed to provide 421 rooms; Eurotel, 50 rooms; and Town and Country, 60 rooms.
“At 4:20 pm today, Mayor Isko Moreno talked to Sogo, Eurotel and Town & Country for the shelter of frontliners and healthcare workers living outside the City of Manila,” the city government said in a Twitter post on Wednesday night.

Sogo has pledged to provide 421 rooms, Eurotel to provide 50 rooms, and Town and Country to provide 140 rooms.

At present, the whole island of Luzon is placed under “enhanced community quarantine” in a bid to curb the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Mass public transportation has been suspended, making it difficult for frontliners and health workers to go to and from work.

Some were forced to walk for hours just to make it to their work.
