LOS BAÑOS, Laguna — Several cities and municipalities in Batangas and Laguna provinces have suspended classes in all levels, private and public, amid concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). Announcements were made and memos were posted on social media this week.

There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in both provinces but the local government units are taking preventive measures like disinfecting schools to avoid possible contamination.

In Batangas, classes in Padre Garcia town are suspended from March 12 to 13, while classes in Malvar are suspended from March 12 to 14. In the city of Sto. Tomas, class suspensions are in effect from March 13 to 16.

In Laguna, classes in Santa Rosa City are canceled for March 13, so that the city government and the Department of Education could assess the situation and take appropriate actions. In San Pedro City, classes were suspended March 11, effective until March 14.
