5th coronavirus case in Quezon City confirmed

MANILA, Philippines – A 26-year-old male is the fifth coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient recorded in Quezon City, Mayor Joy Belmonte said Thursday.

“Sa ngayon po, lima na po. Lima ang amin pong positive,” Belmonte said in an interview on dzMM.

“Itong panglima, nakakagulat dahil napakabata, 26 years old,” she added.

Belmonte said the fifth COVID-19 patient in the city is a resident of Barangay Bagong Lipunan ng Crame and has no recent overseas travel history.

“Lalaki po at ang kanilang bahay at matatagpuan sa Barangay BL Crame,” Belmonte said.

“Sabi nung magulang sa akin, walang travel abroad. Hindi pa po nila alam kung sino ang nakasalamuha o paano niya nakuha.”

Belmonte said the patient was earlier diagnosed with dengue fever.

“In fact, ilang hospital na ang napuntahan nya at dengue ang sinasabing sakit nya. Ngayon lang daw po nila nalaman na hindi dengue,” Belmonte said.

Belmonte assured the patient’s family will also be tested or COVID-19.

She said she was unsure whether the case was included in the 49 confirmed COVID-19 cases  in the country.

A 27-year-old doctor is Quezon City’s fourth COVID-19 patient, Belmonte earlier reported.

The three other patients in the city are a 57-year old man, a man in his 30s residing in Tomas Morato Avenue and a resident of Barangay Project 6.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday night announced the first death of a Filipino in the country due to COVID-19.

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses named the novel coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.

The virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people but can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
