MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Tuesday confirmed that the city has three of the 24 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recorded in the country.

“Out of the 24 cases, three are from Quezon City,” Belmonte said in an interview over DZMM when asked how many confirmed cases of the virus are in the city.

The country’s record of coronavirus cases soared to 24, as announced by President Rodrigo Duterte in a press conference Monday night.

Belmonte said the first case is that of a 57-year-old resident of Baler Street, while the second case is that of a resident of a condominium along Tomas Morato. The third case, a resident of Project 6, was earlier revealed by President Rodrigo Duterte in a press conference.

“Yung una po, masasabi ko nang Baler Street (The first case, I can say he lives in Baler Street), I think that person is about 57 years old,” she said about the first case,” Belmonte bared.

The city mayor said the local government has contacted the family of the first recorded case to check if they have also been infected by the new coronavirus.

“Wala pa naman [silang] pinapakitang sintomas as of now at na-self quarantine na po sila,” she said about the family of the infected patient.

(They have not yet shown any signs of symptoms, and as of now, they are already under self-quarantine.)

The city’s second confirmed case, Belmonte said, is a man in his 30s and a resident of a condominium building at the Tomas Morato-Timog area. The patient is now confined at a private hospital outside of Quezon City, Belmonte said.

“When I learned about it… tinawagan ko na rin po yung kapitana, yung mga health officials po natin, at nakausap na po yung management ng condominium (I called up the captain, the health officials, and I already talked to the management of the condominium),” Belmonte stated.

“While there was nobody in the condo at that time, na-disinfect na po yung building (the building has been disinfected),” she added.

A sister of the second case-patient, said Belmonte, will undergo contact tracing and quarantine.

The third confirmed case will be visited by health officials on Tuesday, said Belmonte.

“Pero hahanapin pa po nila yung address that was given to us is not accurate kaya hahanapin pa namin the correct address for that one,” she said.
