Earthquake hits Leyte province anew

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Leyte town on Tuesday afternoon, a day after the province was hit by a 5.7-magnitude quake that damaged some school buildings, state seismologists said.

An initial earthquake bulletin from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) showed that the tremor was spotted seven kilometers (KMS) northwest of Leyte town in Leyte province at 2:51 p.m.

The quake, which had a depth of one kilometer, was of tectonic in origin.

The tremor was felt as Intensity IV in Naval, Biliran, Intensity II in Tanauan, Barugo, Palo, Jaro, Tolosa, Dagami, San Miguel, Dulag, Babatngon in Leyte and in Tacloban City.

No aftershocks and damage are expected from the 4.1 earthquake.

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake also shook areas in Eastern Visayas on early morning of Monday.
