Carpenter hurt in Quezon stabbing incident

LUCENA CITY — A 53-year-old carpenter was seriously injured after he was stabbed by his drinking buddy at a birthday celebration in Sariaya town in Quezon province Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Sariaya police reported that Fernando Vidal was stabbed twice by Antonio Belda Jr., during the celebration held in Barangay (village) Manggalang around 7:30 p.m.

Investigations revealed the victim and the suspect were drinking with other guests when Belda, who was already drunk, suddenly stabbed Vidal.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to San Juan Doctors Hospital in the nearby town of San Juan, Batangas. He was later transferred to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City.

Police said the incident was caused by a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim. The suspect was detained at the local police jail.
