Married off-duty cops thwart armed robbery

Married off-duty cops officer Nicole McKeown and detective Chase McKeown thwarted an armed robbery during one of their date nights in a restaurant in Kentucky, United States.

The couple, who were from the Elizabethtown Police Department, were dining at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in the Highlands in Louisville on Saturday evening, Feb. 15, when a masked man with a handgun entered the restaurant and demanded money from an employee, as per an arrest citation via The Courier-Journal on Feb. 18.

The couple did not think twice in confronting the masked man, who has since been identified as 30-year-old Justin T. Carter. In a surveillance video shared by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) via Facebook, the McKeowns can be seen standing up from their booth and withdrawing their guns to confront Carter.

Carter dropped the gun as he fled, while the couple pursued him. As per the police department’s post, the McKeowns chased Carter in the Highlands and made the arrest with 5th Division officers of the LMPD. 

“This is the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers at #MidCityMall Saturday night. Shout out to the two Elizabethtown Police Department officers that went from enjoying them delish chicken fingie’s to full-blown #Sheepdogs real quick,” said the LMPD. “They chased the suspect in the Highlands and made the arrest with our 5th Division officers. Great work, EPD!”

Carter’s handgun was also discovered to have been stolen from the Jefferstown Police. He now faces charges of first-degree robbery, receiving a stolen firearm and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, as per the report. He is currently held on a $50,000 bond (around P2.5 million) in the Louisville Metro Corrections and is slated for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 25. Cody Cepeda /ra
