3 ‘shabu’ peddlers fall in Lucena drug stings

LUCENA CITY –– Police arrested three suspected bigtime shabu (crystal meth) peddlers here in two buy-bust operations on Tuesday, police said.

Anti-illegal drugs operatives collared Eduardo Saavedra, 31, after he sold shabu to an undercover police officer and an informant in Barangay 9 at 7:15 p.m., Lieutenant Colonel Romulo Albacea, Lucena police chief, said in a report.

Authorities seized five sachets of shabu weighing 10 grams worth P68,000 in the street market.

Shabu is being sold in this city at P6,800 per gram.

Earlier, policemen also busted Jeffrey De Chavez, 35, and his partner, Caroline Tutor, 33, after they sold a sachet of “meth” to a police agent in Barangay Gulang-Gulang around 5:30 p.m.

The suspects yielded 25 sachets of shabu weighing 10.70 grams worth P72,760 in the street market.

Police tagged the three suspects as bigtime drug pushers in their respective villages, who also supply shabu to street-level pushers in the areas.

Police said concerned citizens and rehabilitated drug users informed the authorities of the suspects’ illegal activities.

Albacea said the local police had been actively pursuing “Oplan Magilas,” a massive anti-criminality campaign in the city to flush out and arrest the few remaining drug pushers.
