Tarlac town passes resolution opposing nCoV quarantine zone at New Clark City

TARLAC CITY –– The municipal council of Capas in Tarlac province on Friday passed a resolution objecting to the conversion of the Athletes’ Village at the New Clark City into a quarantine zone for repatriated Filipinos.

The resolution, unanimously approved by the council members, came out amid concerns raised by communities around NCC ahead of the scheduled arrival of around 40 Filipinos from China’s city of Wuhan in the province of Hubei, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus (nCoV).

NCC, which is under the jurisdiction of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, is situated in Capas and nearby Bamban towns.

The Athletes’ Village at the NCC was used during the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Capas Mayor Reynaldo Catacutan said the national government had not consulted the local officials about the planned isolation site in their area.

Catacutan said the Department of Health must instead find an alternative quarantine site./lzb
