Wedding ring thrown away during couple’s fight found by dog

A dog may have saved a marriage when it found a man’s wedding ring, which he threw away after arguing with his wife.

The animal’s handler, Carl Woodall, saw the man and his friend “acting suspiciously” with a torch in Harborne, England at 2 a.m. on Jan. 25. Woodall then pulled over and asked the pair what they were doing, as per West Midlands Police‘s statement via Facebook on Jan. 28.

The two men explained that they had been “looking in vain for the ring by the roadside.”

“It was pitch black,” the officer told BBC on the same day. “They could have spent all night and still not found it.”

After speaking with the men, Woodall had the German shepherd named Odin help look for the ring. However, Woodall admitted that he was not confident there would be “enough scent” for the dog, since the ring was “quite small.”

“But he proved me wrong and indicated by the ring in a matter of seconds,” he was quoted as saying.

“Much to the delight (and relief) of the hugely embarrassed hubby,” the department noted.

“Odin got a pat and thanks all round,” Woodall added. “It’s nice to be nice and I was back on patrol in less than five minutes.”

Odin is a 6-year-old dog from the department’s breeding and training program. Meanwhile, Woodall has been a dog handler for almost 20 years. Ryan Arcadio/JB
