Taxi driver shot dead after foiled robbery of Parañaque cop

MANILA, Philippines — A taxi driver was shot dead in Parañaque City on Wednesday morning after he tried to rob his passenger, who turned out to be a Parañaque police officer.

A report from the Parañaque City police station said the cab driven by Elmer Tubil, 37, was traversing Macapagal Avenue in Barangay Tambo on Wednesday at 2:45 a.m. with the passenger later identified as Police Staff Sergeant Roland Carpio, who is assigned at the follow-up unit of Parañaque police.

According to the report, Tubil took out a caliber .38 revolver and announced the hold-up as the cab was cruising the C5 extension in Barangay San Dionisio.

Reacting to the robbery, Carpio took out his 9 mm pistol and shot Tubil. Police said Tubil died on the spot.

The incident remains under investigation said the Parañaque City police.
