Ex-village watchman held for ‘aiding’ thief

/ 12:32 AM January 03, 2012

A former village watchman was nabbed on New Year’s Day in Quezon City for allegedly aiding a thief in stealing a motorcycle in the neighborhood.

Superintendent Ferdinand Villanueva, chief of the Quezon City Police District’s Anti-Carnapping Unit, identified the suspect as Rogelio Teodoro, 29. Teodoro used to serve as a barangay tanod in Barangay (village) San Jose but on Sunday, he was tagged by Rea Anne de la Rosa who said Teodoro and another man tried to divest her of the motorcycle she was driving.

De la Rosa said she had just borrowed the bike from a friend around 4 a.m. Sunday when two men got off a tricycle and blocked her way at the corner of D. Tuazon and G. Roxas streets. As she fell off the bike, one of the suspects grabbed it and drove off, followed by Teodoro. The woman shouted for help and caught the attention of village watchmen who went after Teodoro.—Julie M.
