Vizcaya inmate dead after he was stabbed over loose ball

SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya–A 21-year-old inmate was killed after he was stabbed by another inmate during a fight inside their cell at the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Jail in Bayombong town on Thursday (Jan 9), police said.

Police identified the fatality as Alvin Buscas of a village known as District 4, also in Bayombong town.

Investigators said suspect Esmereldo Olarte III, 29, was irked when he was hit by a ball that the victim was reportedly playing with.

Olarte stabbed Buscas several times using an improvised knife being used for woodcraft inside the jail facility.

Buscas was taken to the Regional Trauma and Medical Center but died while being treated.
