Robredo’s drug war report ‘bereft of logic’ – Año

MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday dismissed the report presented by Vice President Leni Robredo on the Duterte administration’s drug war, saying it was “bereft of logic.”

“Kung sinumang gumawa noong materials niya, that’s actually bereft of logic (Whoever made her materials came up with a report bereft of logic). It’s like counting the chickens before the eggs are hatched,” he said in an interview with reporters shortly after the turnover-of-command ceremony for the new acting chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection at Camp Karingal, Quezon City.

Año said Robredo’s interpretation of the data “defies logic,” and should not be taken generally as “gospel truth.”

“Parang sinabi mo na mayroong sampung baboy, nanganganak araw-araw. Binilang mo na hanggang tatlong taon. Hindi mo alam ‘yung tatlo doon namatay na kaagad the next week, tapos ‘yung mga anak niya namatay na rin (It’s like saying there were ten pigs that give birth everyday. So you counted how many will be its piglets for the next three years. But you did not know that three of those pigs will die as early as next week and the piglets will also die),” he also said.

The DILG chief likewise raised doubts on Robredo‘s claims in her report that some 3,000 kilos of shabu were being consumed in the country per week. The figure, she said, was based on the estimate of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group.

“Ngayon ko lang din nakita ‘yung consumption na yun, 3,000 kg per week. Kapag ganon karami baka tayong lahat tumitira tayo nun, three tons ‘yun (Actually, it was only now that I heard that the consumption was at 3,000 kg per week. If that was the case, all of us are drug users then),” he said.

Año said he supports the position of Malacañang and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Aaron Aquino’s position that there was nothing new in Robredo’s report.
