Bridge destroyed by ‘Tisoy’ isolates 90 families in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY –– Two days after Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) battered Bicol region, more than 90 families in two barangays were still isolated in Albay town.

Noel Ordoña, head of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of Pio Duran, said the storm surge destroyed the bridge that connects the coastal barangays and town center areas.

Based on the partial report, in Barangay Marigondon, 24 families whose houses were damaged by the typhoon, are taking temporary shelter in Marigondon National High School.

In Barangay Basicao, at least 68 families were still housed in Basicao Coastal Elementary School.

Abundio Nuñez, operation officer of Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, said relief goods were transported using a motorized banca.

He said most of the houses made of light materials in five barangays in the town were damaged by the typhoon.

Some towns in the coastal west area in Albay, including Ligao, Oas, Jovellar, and Libon were also affected by the storm surge and flooding.

In Jovellar, Justin Luna head of MDRRMO, said 894 houses were partially damaged, while 405 were totally damaged, most of which were from coastal areas.

“Some residents stayed in their relatives’ houses and Barangay Plaza BUB evacuation center,” he said.

Ian James Ceciliano, head of MDRRMO of Libon, said some parts of Barangay Macabugos were still flooded.

Tisoy left 822 houses totally damaged, he added.
