A couple bought a baby bouncer for a baby shower they went to, which is a typical gift for such an event. But they ended up unintentionally gifting the soon-to-be-born child his first semi-automatic rifle instead.
Veronica Alvarez-Rodriguez, said they got the baby bouncer for only $9.99 (around P500), as posted on her Facebook on Monday, Dec. 2.
“When you go to the Goodwill for a baby shower gift thinking you got a good deal on a bouncer ($10) not even opened and you end up opening a MOSSBERG 715T Semi-Auto Rifle,” Alvarez-Rodriguez wrote.
Alvarez-Rodriguez and her husband were on their way to the baby shower when they dropped by a local Goodwill store in Valparaiso, Florida, United States last Sunday. They then headed to Crestview for the party after getting the gift, as per The News Herald‘s report last Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Alvarez-Rodriguez claimed that the baby bouncer’s box was still unopened and looked new.
“It was like the perfect gift for the baby shower,” she was quoted as saying.
After giving the baby bouncer to the soon-to-be-father, Alvarez-Rodriguez said the latter shouted in excitement after opening the box: “You guys got me a gun!”
While other guests found the gift hilarious, Alvarez-Rodriguez and her husband were shocked, the report said. The Crestview Police Department was then called to the scene.
The gun was identified as a Mossberg 715T semi-automatic rifle. The package came with live ammo in it, Alvarez-Rodriguez claimed.
Alvarez-Rodriguez said the authorities confiscated the gun and will hold on to it for 90 days, but will give them back to the couple as “the serial number was clean,” as seen on her Facebook post.
“This was Valparaiso Goodwill, Serial number was clean & Crestview Police said do what you want with it,” she said. “The gun now belongs to Baby Jonathan who is due to enter this world any day now. #wegiftedhimhisfirstgun.” Ian Biong/JB
