DILG chief: PNP must arrest vandals
MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to arrest all the vandals in the country after four members of a youth group were arrested for allegedly vandalizing places in Manila.
“Go after all vandals for their utter disregard of the law and defacement of government properties,” Año said in a statement on Wednesday.
On Saturday, four members of Panday Sining, including a minor, were taken under police custody for spray-painting messages condemning political repression against activists on the walls of Light Rail Transit posts at Recto, Manila.
Año said the authorities repeatedly warned the youth group members to refrain from conducting vadalism, noting that “they must face consequences of their actions.”
Año also cited that instead of heeding the government’s warning, Panday Sining members vandalized a telecom box at the Manila City Hall and on the walls of Araullo High School in Manila.
