After almost 7 hours, Mandaluyong fire now under control

MANILA, Philippines – After almost seven hours, firefighters said the blaze that engulfed Addition Hills in Mandaluyong is now under control.

Senior Inspector Joscar Bongalon, head of the city fire bureau’s fire safety enforcement section said at least 500 houses were destroyed with an estimate of 2,000 families affected while people were injured.

Authorities had difficulty entering the affected areas due to narrow streets plus scampering residents carrying their belongings away from the fire.

Arson investigators said the fire started at 3:13 p.m. at the house of a certain Maria Biada but the cause is still being determined.

Mayor Menchie Abalos already rushed to the scene and coordinated with the barangay officials.
