MANILA, Philippines—President Rodrigo Duterte is not inclined to order the suspension of classes in Metro Manila for the duration of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
“That is simply too long,” Duterte told reporters in Malacañang.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier backed calls for the suspension of classes in the capital region for the duration of the 2019 SEA Games to ease traffic congestion in the metropolis.
The country will host the regional multi-sport meet on Nov. 30 to Dec. 11. The games will be held at different venues in Metro Manila, Clark, and Subic and other areas.
