Drinking bout in quake-weary Digos turns deadly as man killed, assailant jailed
DIGOS CITY—A construction worker is now being held behind bars after stabbing on Wednesday, Nov. 13, a drinking buddy with whom he had a heated argument.
Armando Baredo, 38, resident of the village of Goma here, was having a drink with Dante Cabanda, 37, and another neighbor, Jeffrey Aranquez, inside a store in the village of Matti before heading home.
But their lively drinking spree turned bitter as Cabanda and Baredo, already drunk, engaged in a heated verbal tussle.
According to Col. Ernesto Castillo, Digos police chief, Cabanda eventually fell asleep, giving a fuming Baredo the chance to attack him.
Baredo, Castillo said, took a knife and stabbed Cabanda in the neck, instantly killing him.
Baredo fled the scene but was arrested in a pursuit operation.
