MANILA, Philippines — As noise pollution may cause psychological and economic damage, Pasay City government has signed an ordinance that would intensify its crackdown on vehicles with noisy mufflers.

In a statement on Tuesday, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano signed Pasay City Ordinance 6009 or “Anti-Modified Tail Pipe Ordinance of Pasay City” which bans noisy mufflers for all vehicles including tricycles and motorcycles.

According to the ordinance, some owners have opted to remove silencers in their vehicles and modify their mufflers with loud noise.
