MANILA, Philippines – Two earthquakes pounded Cotabato and parts of Mindanao anew on Wednesday after a powerful earthquake jolted the region Tuesday morning that left at least seven people dead and dozens injured.

The epicenter of the first earthquake, which was measured at magnitude 5.0, was traced 10 kilometers (km) east of Tulunan, Cotabato, at 5:22 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
It was felt at Intensity V and Instrumental Intensity IV in Kidapawan City.

An hour later, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake was recorded 30 km east of Tulunan, Cotabato, and was felt at Intensity V in Kidapawan City.

Both earthquakes quakes were tectonic in origin, the Phivolcs said.
The agency, however, assured that no aftershocks or damage are expected from the two temblors. /gsg
