Red alert for NCR cops mulled for ‘Undas’

MANILA, Philippines — Police in the National Capital Region (NCR) is going on red alert status days before All Souls and All Saints Day, or Undas, to tighten security in public places, especially transport terminals and cemeteries.

Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, acting NCR police chief, said he would meet district directors and chiefs of police in Metro Manila to discuss the enforcement of “template” security measures in the capital region.

At a press briefing, Sinas said all officers and men of the NCR police would be on duty during those days, when millions of people were expected to visit cemeteries.

Declaring a red alert status would mean all leaves cancelled for officers and men.

More than 35,000 officers and men of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deployed nationwide for security measures, said Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, Philippine National Police spokesperson.

Sinas said the NCR police will continue to enforce existing measures being implemented in cemeteries like the ban on liquor and bladed weapons.

The National Capital Region Police Office, he said, had already assigned teams for deployment to transport terminals which would be activated during the exodus of commuters bound for cemeteries in the provinces./TSB
