MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recruited nearly 10,000 rookie police officers for this year, Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, officer-in-charge of the PNP, said Tuesday.

Gamboa said the 9,451 recruits are those who remained from the 38,357 applicants processed by police regional offices nationwide and national support units for 2019, after a selection process that evaluated the overall fitness of all candidates according to standards set by the PNP.

Of the recruits, 7,546 are male and 1,905 are female. They were sworn into the PNP with the rank of Patrolman and Patrolwoman with basic salary of P29,668 plus other allowances.

“Because the Filipino people deserve only the highest quality of law enforcement and public safety services that the PNP can offer, we make sure that only the best and most qualified applicants are recruited into the police force who will someday lead the organization,” Gamboa said in a statement.
