PNP recruits nearly 10,000 rookies for 2019
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recruited nearly 10,000 rookie police officers for this year, Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, officer-in-charge of the PNP, said Tuesday.
Gamboa said the 9,451 recruits are those who remained from the 38,357 applicants processed by police regional offices nationwide and national support units for 2019, after a selection process that evaluated the overall fitness of all candidates according to standards set by the PNP.
Of the recruits, 7,546 are male and 1,905 are female. They were sworn into the PNP with the rank of Patrolman and Patrolwoman with basic salary of P29,668 plus other allowances.
“Because the Filipino people deserve only the highest quality of law enforcement and public safety services that the PNP can offer, we make sure that only the best and most qualified applicants are recruited into the police force who will someday lead the organization,” Gamboa said in a statement.
He said the recruits will undergo the mandatory six-month Public Safety Basic Recruit Course in the National Police Training Institute and another six months of Field Training Program before they will be sent back to their respective units on full duty status.
The National Police Commission has authorized the PNP to hire 10,000 new police personnel for 2019. The remaining 549 recruits will be filled by the National Capital Region Police Office for processing for the PNP to complete the annual recruitment quota.
“We continue to preserve the culture of professionalism in the recruitment and selection process by imposing added safeguards to ensure transparency and integrity of administrative procedures in the entire screening and evaluation process for recruits,” said Gamboa. /jpv
