The first elected mayor of Manila was former militant journalist Arsenio “Arsenic” H. Lacson. A three-time mayor of Manila, he was born on Dec. 26, 1911. First elected in 1951, he was responsible for the conception of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. He died on April 15, 1962.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
