MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government said it will suspend classes on October 4 (Friday) to mark World Teachers Day.

In an executive order, Makati Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay said classes in all public elementary to tertiary schools in the city are suspended.

With the order, all concerned agencies and departments of local government of Makati City are “enjoined to actively participate and support activities and programs for the celebration.”

According to the order, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization designated October 5 as World Teachers’ Day which is being celebrated since 1994.

Under Presidential Proclamation No. 41 s. 2010, the first Friday of September to October 5 was declared as National Teachers Month. /muf
