MANILA, Philippines — Former Duterte Youth nominee Ronald Cardema has asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to allow the withdrawal of his nomination appeal.
In his 3-page motion filed September 23, Cardema said that his arguments raised in his motion for reconsideration were already “moot” and “academic.”
It could be noted that Cardema recently withdrew his nomination bid as Duterte Youth’s first nominee during the May 2019 midterm elections due to supposed “public harassment” made allegedly by Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon against him.

“In view of the foregoing, the Respondent (Cardema) hereby respectfully moves for the withdrawal of his Verified Motion for Reconsideration dated August 13, 2019 considering that the rational and arguments raised thereof has already rendered moot and academic by reason of the above-mentioned Notice of Withdrawal and Resolution No. 005, Series,” the motion reads.
In Cardema’s prayer in the motion, he asked the Comelec to immediately withdraw his petition for reconsideration.
Last August 5, 2019, the Comelec First Division canceled the nomination of Cardema to be the first nominee of Duterte Youth party-list for misrepresentation and age issues.

Cardema then filed a motion for the Comelec En Banc on August 13, 2019 to reconsider his case as he questioned the poll body’s jurisdiction.
